Stand Up -- A Journal for Obi

Sun Aug 6, 2006, 12:52 AM
*Obi-quiet made an eloquent, moving journal telling everyone her opinions, rather boldly, and she asked us to put our own beliefs up also. So, although a lot less well-written, I shall tell you what I believe.

God and Religion
My religion is agnosticism. Yes, I do believe in God. I believe that He created the universe, and that there is a Heaven, and a Hell. But I don't really know if I believe in Jesus Christ. Agnosticism means that you have certain beliefs, sometimes including a belief in God, but you don't conform to the things that make up other religions.

I'm fairly open-minded about religion. If we can believe in Him when we have no proof, then surely anything else that people believe in could be plausible. And, just as much so, atheists are justified in that we have no proof of His existance. I do believe in God, as stated, but everyone else is entitled to their opinions.

To tell the absolute truth, however, I do not believe in religion itself. I think that grouping ourselves takes us further and further away from true unity. The only reason I call myself agnostic is because people ask me what religion I am; therefore, I should give them an answer, no?

Homosexuality
I am homosexual. I have a wonderful, kind, loving girlfriend.

I believe that homosexuality is a sin.

"How could you possibly believe that?! Are you crackers or something?!" Crackers I am, but I do have reasons for believing what I believe.

You see, I am of the opinion that sex is solely for reproduction. And I think God made two genders so that the world would be able to share love with someone. Because sexuality and love prevents everyone everywhere from being entirely independant. And, of course, it probably tones down the arrogance to know you can't, uh, do it yourself.

Anyways, with reproduction as the purpose for sex, homosexuality means you are unable to reproduce because you are both the same gender. So, basically, that is what makes it a sin, in my opinion.

But guess what? Everyone is a sinner. My mother is a sinner. Your mother is a sinner. Whoever's reading this, you're a sinner too. And if being homosexual makes me a sinner, that's okay. Because I mean no harm by it, and I am sorry if I am sinning. And God forgives people for their sins.

Slash
On the note that I am homosexual, I accept and like slash. I'm not as partial to yaoi as to yuri, but that's obvious.

Now, I suppose you might call me bisexual, because I have had a boyfriend before, and I am attracted to men to an extent. (I will elaborate on that later on.) So while I like slash, I mostly read and write a lot of stories with heterosexual couples.

Capital Punishment (the Death Penalty)
I do not believe in the death penalty.

Some people say that they deserve to die. I don't agree. Let me answer you with a wider topic of discussion here.

Love
I believe that, no matter what, everything living deserves love. No matter what they did, or what they do, or how they think, or look, or how they treat others, everything and everyone deserves love. Lots of love, and kindness, and care and happiness and everything that comes with love! Everyone, everything, deserves to have it.

And I believe that you should show your love and give kindness to anyone, and everyone. And I try my best to do so. Sometimes it's hard, but I do my best. Furthermore, to go on the flip side...

Hate
I think "hate" is such a strong word. No one, no living being is capable of feeling actual hate. Extreme dislike? Of course. But no one "hates" someone else.

Hate is such a horrible, horrible, horrible thing. If it wasn't for hate, then we would have a lot less of everything bad in this world.

Ugh. Even the word "hate" sounds bad.

Anyways, back to capital punishment.

Capital Punishment (the rest of it)
So, with that said, I think it is very spiteful to sentence someone to death for killing another person. If someone is a murder, I think you should keep them in jail for a long time, but be relatively good to them. And don't let them out unless you're absolutely sure they reformed. Put 'em in a special home or something first. I don't know; just don't kill them, okay?

Sex Before Marriage
In all seriousness, I think it's the person's choice.

However, for me, I would rather be abstinent before marriage. It is very unlikely I would break that rule, but if I did, I would make sure that it was safe.

... Technically, being homosexual, I wouldn't need to worry a lot. But we're speaking in theory here.

Men
Because I had to say this opinion.

First off, I want to say that this in no way applies to everyone. It is a generalization. Generalizations often skip over many, many people.

The reason that I consider myself morely homosexual than bisexual is because, although I am attracted to males, I find a very hard time trusting them.

Ever since I was little, all of the boys I had met were mean, impolite, and too rough. They made me cry or hurt my feelings somehow. As I got older, I had a crush on a few guys, but they all turned me down. A few of which thought I was creepy and avoided me. When I finally did get a boyfriend, things went semi-smoothly for a while. But he wasn't sure if he loved me, and I was afraid he did not. At some point, we had a long period of separation, and our romance died. Upon contacting me again, we decided to be friends. I was a little angry, but I forgive easily.

Due to all of my life experiences, and I've been bullied by a lot of boys, I've always had trouble trusting males. That does not mean that I don't trust them, it just means that I find it hard.

Also, it did not help the matter that I grew up without a father, causing a further distrust.

(If there are any guys out there who feel like having a new friend and proving that she can still trust the males, then I'm chill with it. I enjoy having friends.)

True Fan Versus Anti-Fan
Omigawd. Do things get any stupider?

Please! Why? Why are we having this... this war?! Can't we all get along?! No? Jeez.

I am neutral. I suppose, in a sense, the true fans are okay in that they think any sort of sexually explicit material is bad. Of course, Danny Phantom is a children's cartoon. It is not good material for hentai.

But there are true fans who say slash is wrong also, and I don't agree. Who said it was wrong? Slash is just another type of romance, not porn. And who says Danny isn't homosexual? It wasn't ever said that he wasn't. Maybe he's bisexual.

Anyways, I have more reasons, but I'm getting so tired right now.

Let's see, how about one more?

Humanity
People say humans are more advanced. But, really, how advanced are we? We invent and make fattening foods, we kill each other, we pollute the air and water, we do not respect nature or the animals... Hell, we don't respect each other.

So what do I think about humanity's advances? Here's what I think. I think that our knowledge of medicine and healing is advanced. We help animals and people by knowing how to doctor wounds and all such.

Also, I think that our discoveries of the unknown are advanced. Our venture into space is something that, quite frankly, fascinates me. But otherwise, I do not think we're as advanced as we think we are.

End of journal now. Whew! Goodnight, whomever is reading this. I think I deserve some rest now.

Feel free to ask me whatever questions you have. Even though I'm sure no one is reading this.

Did you ever consider that your theology is a bit incomplete? I read your journal and I applaud you for using your mind and reason to explore the possibilities of different faiths. Having said that, I believe there are a few missing pieces in your puzzle. If you do believe in sin and that we are all sinners, then there must be a standard to which we are held. The sins to which you refer (homosexuality and others) are lined out in the Old Testament, which I'm sure you know. We were condemned to die and to spend eternity in Hell, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, which I'm sure you know. God, then laid out many other laws when talking to Moses (i.e. the 10 commandments and Levitical Law). ANYONE who breaks any one of these laws is imperfect and has fallen short of the glory of God (sinned). The smallest lie is a broken law. ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES and in light of God's infinite perfection, He will punish, not forgive, those who break the law - which is reasonable (Wait, I'm not doing the "You're going to Hell" thing... there's more). If you consider crime and punishment in our society, we have different degrees to which criminals are punished, according the crime they commit. The difference between our society and God, however, is that God is infinitely perfect. Therefore, if we break the laws of God, we are IMPERFECT, the opposite of God, and cannot exist with him in Heaven. So, when the Earth is destroyed on Judgement Day (ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURES) there will be two places in which people will dwell - Heaven or Hell. Don't throw your arms up in the air, yet. There's much more (and a happy ending, too.) Heaven and Hell are within the realm of Judeo-Christian faith, as you know. However, ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, there only two ways to avoid Hell. Both of which have to do with repentance, and only one is available to those who are not born of Hebrew ethnicity. ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, if you are Jewish, a person must sacrifice a pure and unblemished lamb or other young livestock on an altar, pray, and repent (or abandon) one's sins, whenever that person sins. If you are not born of Hebrew ethnicity, ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, there is but one option. A person must accept that the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was THE sacrifice that saves one from sin, eternal death, and Hell AND repent of (abandon) their sins. You cannot be saved without the repentance coupling the belief. This is not a condemnation. The condemnation was done in the Garden of Eden to Adam and Eve and all their decendants that commit sin. This is the way to avoid condemnation. This is salvation. The sacrifice is a way to become perfect in the eyes of God. It washes away your sin and places it on that which was sacrificed. With the sacrifice of livestock, your sins are placed on an perfect specimen of a particular species and burned in a fire, instead of you being burned in an eternal fire with your sins. In the example of Jesus' act, He was perfect (because, according to scriptures, He was the manifestation of God in the flesh and if God is infinitely perfect, then any manifestation of Him is also inherently perfect). Furthermore, all of the sins of mankind (past, present, and future) transferred to Jesus on the cross. When He breathed His Last, His soul descended into Hell where the sin was burned clean away, making those who repent and accept that truth sin-free and perfect in the eyes of God and ready for eternity in Heaven. There are two sides to sin, committing it & paying for it. Jesus' death was the payment, and if we repent and accept this payment we are saved from Hell, ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURES. Does this all seem too harsh? These are the standards of an infinitely perfect being, not man's.So, it is difficult to wrap our finite little minds around why we were given these options and why we were put in this position. However, God does Love those who choose to obey this truth and instructs them to love every other person on Earth, regardless of what they believe - unconditionally (one of those Laws), and that's why one of our options leads to eternity with Him in Heaven. I too am a free thinker, but I also know the Bible pretty well. I believe that no one on this Earth has the priviledge or power to judge any other soul, but that God is the only one with that dominion. He will judge, make no mistake. And, I, for one, do not think it is worth risking an eternity in Hell (pain, torment, anguish, total darkness) to believe anything other than what is in the New Testament (as I am not Jewish and therefore not eligible to choose Rabbinical Law over Christian Law). I do, however, believe in providing the information that I trust, and letting people make up their own damned minds. I capitalized the phrase "ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURES," because these are not my Words. These belong to God and you can verify them in the Scriptures. The beautiful thing about our relationship with Him, is that we are free to choose Him or to not, but that choice has eternal consequences. If you think that this is all wrong and that God would never do that and that He's not that way, consider this: What if you're wrong? Hypothetically, what if you do have to answer for your unrepentant sins to the living God on Judgement Day? Are you making for yourself a god that conveniently conforms to the way you want things to be (That sort of breaks the 2nd commandment: "You shall have no other gods before [also translated as besides] me.")? Remember, this is not a condemnation, this is good news. Think of it this way... WE now have a way to avoid Hell. I can tell you have a real thirst for knowledge, and I hope you'll read the Bible as often as you can, if for nothing else but to learn about what other people believe. Best wishes to you, and I pray that these words are acceptable to God.
